"THE DRINKING ANIMALS"

(title refers to a dialogue from De Dierenwinkel (The Pet Shop) from the tv-series Jiskefet, VPRO)

Vincent Gootzen (Tegelen, 1974, Nl.) lives and works for several weeks in Sign. On the spot a dialogue will emerge from the architecture of the exhibition space and the partially prepared and brought work, which are parts of his studio in Düsseldorf (D).
Beside that he will work with all kinds of present and found objects and materials. During this working period Gootzen investigates in this new work- and living-situation what in the end is important or is more important in this abundance;
the space, the work? Both? In the development of the process a new equilibrium will arise in which he creates other values, meanings and transitions concerning the different architectural, sculptural and pictorial elements.
Apart from the perspective of the exhibition-space and studio, his past as a professional skateboarder (1997-2007) is influential and by this he adds a physical connotation.

"DE DRINKENDE DIEREN" (titel ontleend aan een dialoog uit de Dierenwinkel van de tv-serie Jiskefet, VPRO, scene die handelt over wat van belang is of niet) Vincent Gootzen (Tegelen, 1974) woont en werkt gedurende enkele weken in Sign, Groningen. Ter plekke zal onder zijn hand een dialoog ontstaan tussen de voorhanden architectuur van de expositieruimte en het gedeeltelijk voorbereid en meegenomen werk, dat tot het interieur van zijn atelier in Düsseldorf behoort. Daarnaast bedient hij zich van allerlei aanwezige en gevonden voorwerpen en materialen. Tijdens de werkperiode onderzoekt Gootzen in deze nieuwe woon-/werksituatie wat uiteindelijk belangrijk of belangrijker is in deze veelheid; de ruimte, het werk? beiden? In het verloop van het proces zal er een nieuwe balans ontstaan waarbij hij andere waarden, betekenissen en overgangen creëert bij de verschillende bouwkundige, sculpturale en picturale elementen.
